Every Liberator needs a North Star to illuminate the path, to help them to keep up the good fight. It's been said that it is
better to die standing than to live on one's knees. Of course, there is one
thing better than dying standing -- living standing.
Today we are asking you to be our North Star -- to illuminate our
path, to help us keep up the good fight, to help The Liberator live
standing.
The Liberator is independent both in print and online. The Liberator is
young -- all but a few of our staff members are less than 25 years old. And
being independent and young is not easy in this world.
Close your eyes for a second and imagine this: Over 15,000 people worldwide
read The Liberator each issue. Our current printing costs each issue (every
other month) run us a little more than $2,000. If we could have just 20
Liberator supporters donating $100 -- or on the opposite end, 1,000
Liberator supporters donating just $1 -- every month, we could cover nearly
100 percent of our printing costs entirely through the independent support
of our community!
This is our fight: to independently fulfill our mission to help preserve
humanity by creating and supporting excellent spaces of dialogue that
provide fresh and forceful analysis and critique of art, culture, education,
and politics.
This is our mission because helping to preserve humanity requires creating
change and we believe that real change starts with excellent spaces of
dialogue. Without these excellent spaces of dialogue where ideas are
exchanged, there would be no Civil Rights Movement, there would be no
Pan-African Movement, there would be no Women's Movement, there would be no
Free South Africa Movement -- simply, there would be no movements.
By becoming a Liberator North Star donor you are illuminating our path
towards this goal of remaining independent. You are enabling us to march
toward this goal.
Being independent means never being beholden to anyone but our community
when it comes to making decisions on what to discuss in our excellent spaces
or how to best serve our community.
What we are asking is that you
commit to making a financial contribution of any amount to The Liberator
every month. It can be as little as $1 every month, or as much as you like.
You can even adjust the amount you give each month, maybe giving $1 one
month and maybe $50 the next month, as long as you commit to lifting up The
Liberator each month with a financial contribution of some amount.
Dr. Kelly Miller once said that we too often "buy what we want and beg
for what we need". Well, here and now is an opportunity to commit to
supporting something that our community needs. We spend regularly on so many
things that are relatively superficial. We might spend $40 a month going out
to eat. We might spend $10 to see a film at the theater once a month. We are
asking you to contribute as little as $1 each month.
In addition, you will be listed in The Liberator Magazine masthead and on
our websites as our community North Stars and from time to time we will send
you free Liberator promotional materials such as T-Shirts, Music and more!
Your monthly contribution will go directly toward the printing and increased
circulation of more magazines. We want The Liberator to reach communities
all over the world and we need you to help us get there. Ultimately, your
support will go toward the establishment of a free and independent
intellectual space, where ideas can continue to be discussed, debated and
critiqued. It is our goal that these ideas and dreams may actually be
realized and manifested in the same manner as the ideas, dreams and actions
of our ancestors.
If you are able, please contribute to the freedom, independence and survival
of The Liberator by becoming a Liberator North Star today.
To become a Liberator North Star:

The Liberator Magazine staff
