The Black Rock Coalition
Rock N' Roll Reparations (Volume 1)

The Black Rock Coalition has put together a collection of young artist who question genre limitations from the black rock/Afro punk scenes for their 20th anniversary compilation disc Rock N' Roll Reparations Volume One. Reparations is wild ride through the African Diaspora that lures you in with the opening hit “Spit At It” By Honey Child and continues to explore the sounds of a classic American music with a touch of soul that for some heads, rock and roll music sometimes seems to lack. Pulling in diverse group of new school underground big wigs like Afro-Punk luminaries Tamar-Kali and the voodoo- punk of Philadelphians’ Phil Moore Brown, whose toured with Atmophere. There’s also soul /rock veteran Martin Luther, known as a guitarist and opening act for The Roots, Canadian bad girl, Graph Nobel who does a Gwen Stefani on “Broken Heart” the albums most polished track. Sananda Maitreya aka Terrance Trent Darby reappears after being M.I.A. with the beautiful ballad “More Than You Do.” Others to watch for are Brooklyn trio The Exit, their punk rock infused with reggae and dub sound brings comparisons to early Police recordings. Kudu’s sexy Siouxsie and The Banshees-like “Hot Lava,” Younglao and Suffrajett, all three offer new female perspectives and will keep the heads on bob from start to finish. While “Boxes” by Arts and Sciences creeps up and will likely become a favorite, with those of you who are looking for something outside of the typical Hip-Hop and R&B that we are bombarded with everyday, Rock n Roll Reparations is a life saver.
