Liberator 6.2
"Ms. Ramirez" is a serious reflection on
the social struggles of late seventies and early eighties with songs
like Tanna Gardner’s "Heartbeat" to set the old school tone. DJ
Francisco's remixes of Mary Jane Girls' "All Night Long" demonstrate his
artistic ability to create smooth transitions on the mixer while Mos
Def’s "Dance with You" is the epitome of Francisco’s craftsmanship.
Songs of consciousness from Little Brother "So Fabulous" to Biggie's
"Give Me the Loot" hit you with the "here and now" of Hip-Hop's lyrical
icons. The amazing amount of nostalgic R&B remixes round out this
intriguing compilation, which leaves me to believe that this young man
actually grew up with most of these classic tracks in heavy rotation.
Now, artistically paying homage, "Ms. Ramirez" covers songs of both good
times and bad times--life. Remixes like Minnie Ripperton's "Lyrics to
Go" to Mr. Quincy Jones "Foolin" will take you back down memory lane,
not to mention the title track. The "Ms. Ramirez" anthem is a jazzy
rendition with Faith Evans vocals in the background and scratches, which
end with a romantic phone message mixing the tune out brilliantly
transitioning into joint after joint of non-stop musica de la gente. |
