Liberator 5.2
M-1 International’s album "Confidential," the first solo project from the dead prez duo, gives fans an in-depth look into the mind of a revolutionary man. The album strays away from what is typically expected from dead prez yet tracks like "Comrades Call" with Styles P, "Early" with stic.man, "Don't Put Down Your Flag," and "5 Elements" show M-1 is still Revolutionary But Gangsta. Cuts like "Love You Can't Borrow" with Cassandra Wilson and Q-Tip, "For You," and "Land, Bread, Housing" which features M's mother, show that to be a revolutionary is to be a family man/woman. M-1's travel throughout the globe has seemingly helped him to mature as a man in his overstanding, teachings and philosophies. "Confidential" is a reflection of that growth. "Till We Get There with K'naan, "Gunslinger" and the seven-minute-long "Too Smart" are tracks that give you something to sit down to and soak up, while "Been Through" with Ghostface and "The Beat" give you something to move to. As a whole, "Confidential" has a good mix of music sprinkled with "hood news" interludes with commentary from M-1 and Chairman Fred Hampton Jr. on topics such as Aaron Patterson and Assata Shakur's exile in Cuba. The album also comes with a DVD that has bonus videos, exclusive backstage footage and rooftop footage of M-1 breaking down his album. "Confidential" is a must have. It's RBG: Revolutionary But Grown. (Dave McDuffie) |
