Ghostface Killah
The Pretty Toney Album

Arguably the tightest MC to come out of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan, Denis Coles, AKA Ghostface Killah, drops his fourth solo release. Over a decade ago Ghostface hit the scene as a stand out member of the Wu-Tang Clan where he made his mark with both his sharp lyrics and strong personality. The Pretty Toney Album is everything hardcore Ghostface fans have been waiting for--raw beats mixed with Ghost's unique flow. Ghostface is among that elite few in hip hop, who have managed to not fall off after 10+ years in the game and have actually improved with each new release. Although it’s no Supreme Clientele, it's official. The album's centerpiece, the masterful hood narrative "Be This Way," where he rhymes "Smack DVDs, blowin' herb/ I’m in the room bonin' these two white bitches/ Ice baggin' up work/ that’s how we get down/ fuck Vegas" huh? Despite what you heard it all makes sense. Long before anyone heard of Kanye West, Tony Starks paid tribute to the soul classics, this time borrowing the whole song from the Delfonics' "La La La" and rhyming over it on "Holla." On The Pretty Toney Album, Ghostface uses soul music not just for an emotional reaction; rather he is using the fact that soul music signifies emotionality. Once again Ghost covers all the bases from street banger "Run" w/ Jadakiss and the hypnotic "Beat The Clock" to the R&B send up "Love" w/ Musiq and K.Fox, where Ghost spits "I love the mothers of my babies, them girls special." No doubt, Wu-Tang is still for the children.
