Liberator 4.3
Slug from Atmosphere fame and Murs from the Living Legends crew are Felt. The sophomore release for hip hops unlikely hero's who manage to capture the both the light and dark sides of life without being corny or extra thuged out. The album is produced entirely by Ant, and manages to sound like one cohesive project as opposed to many different visions and influences. The production sound is much in the vein of Souls of Mischief and Del of the mid nineties, with a funk/ Jazz mix that is unmistakably west coast influenced. Most of the album is fun and reminiscing of a time when MC's could sound hard without talking about murder or armed robbery. Always conceptual, Slug & Murs reference pop culture with songs titled “Marvin Gaye,” “I Shot A Warhol” and “Morris Day.” In “Your Mans and Them” They point out the importance of having tight crew. "Dirty Girl” finds the duo lusting after women with jobs that require them to get dirty (as in cooking greasy hamburgers and working on cars). Among the highlights are "The Biggest Lie” where Slug ferociously spits "The problem with love is that it lives in a book now/ the problem with drugs is that they too fuckin' good now". Both Murs and Slug have put in the work of OG’s in the underground rap world and Felt is as good as they both get, hence if you feel them you will feel Felt. words: Amahl Grant |
