Liberator 4.5
As one of the few active artists left from Minneapolis' original Spoken Word scene that detonated in 1996, Desdamona opens her newest release, "The Ledge," with "Wanted 2 B an MC," setting the record straight that this is an album that's heavily influenced by Hip-Hop. Mega-producers Sly and Robbie, who, for years, have been laying down nontraditional beats and giving albums distinct sounds, teamed up with Desdamona’s passionate writing style to create a blend of Spoken Word and Hip-Hop that will keep you thinking from beginning to end -- especially with the two standout tracks "Planet Remix" and "We Will Always B." If you are into thought provoking, witty lyrics that promote positivity, then you will enjoy this release. If you mistake her for an R&B singer and not the Spoken Word artist that she is, then you will be disappointed. Her vocals could use a little work, but the lyrical content, combined with sharp writing and crafty production make "The Ledge" a winner. words: Gayle Smaller |
