De La Soul
De La Soul Is Dead

"De La Soul Is Dead" is one of the first classic Hip-Hop albums to appear in the '90s. The freedom with which these brothers expressed themselves and the anti gangster-tough-guy image really worked for them on this emotion ride. From the dark classic "Millie Pulled a Pistol on Santa" to the all-star roller-skating jam "Saturdays," DeLa manages to create a record of high Hip-Hop quality. The classic skits and artistic usage of sampling keeps it jumping from the beginning to the end and creates a feeling that Hip-Hop will live forever. Released in 1991 on Tommy Boy, De La Soul Is Dead is a classic that has stood the test of time. The production and the lyricism teamed with sharply polished conceptual songs had DeLa standing in a world of their own. Not to mention the 27 tracks!
