Liberator 2.1
If there was ever a time for politics to be at the forefront pop culture, it’s now as we prepare to go to war. The hip-hop community needs a revolution like never before faced with a mountain of materialism, lack of respect for the culture and its fans and outright greed among its biggest artists. Welcome the people’s army. Dead Prez gives us a lil’ something before its official follow up to its debut “Lets Get Free” (Loud). Staying true to form, dp’z music is no doubt about the struggle, but it’s also about your everyday life shit, which is itself, the struggle. “Turn off The Radio” finds dp taking a few hits and reworking them, check out “War” borrowing from Black Rob’s “Whoa” where they rip it “its like war/its like war.” The heavily bootlegged cover of Aaliyah’s “We Need A Resolution” to the urgent call of “We Need a Revolution” where M1 and Stic Man question what they have to do to get n*ggas to listen “What I gotta do/rhyme over Timbaland…” There’s also joints from their comrades like producer Tahir and some unreleased tracks, b-sides and remixes.
