Liberator 6.1
Peanut Butter Wolf
Chrome Children
(Stones Throw/Adult Swim)

"Chrome Children" is the latest release from Stones Throw Records and is a co-production between Stones Throw Records and Adult Swim. Not only is this release a musical masterpiece for all you indie heads out there, it also includes footage from the hip-hop concert headlined by MF DOOM and Madlib at the 2006 SXSW music festival In Austin, Texas. This album is a combination of Indie Hip-Hop, Neo Soul, R&B, Jazz, Acid Jazz, Funk and Electornica but every song maintains that deep soulful sound. "Chrome Children" was conceptualized as a collection of B-Sides from the artists on the Stones Throw Label but that's very hard to tell. The two major producers on this album are Madlib and J Dilla (R.I.P.) and they do a wonderful job of bringing the urban and sometimes soothing and exotic beats to life. One of my favorite artists on this album is Guilty Simpson out of Detroit. Simpson gets the party started with "Clap Your Hands." With fierce raw lyrics Simpson paints a picture in your head about his life and hustle in the city of Detroit. You can hear the hunger in Simpson’s voice: "I don’t think at all/ all I can be is me/ and if you don't like it/ I dare you to get excited." Among the many highlights are J-Dilla's future classic "Nothing Like This," Roc C's "Movin" produced by Oh No and Percee P and Quasimoto's "Raw Heat." J Roc cuts it up while Dudley Perkins does his thing and MF Doom gets caught in some "Monkey Business." Showing the strength of the label that Peanut Butter Wolf started ten years ago, "Chrome Children" manages to celebrate the past while shedding some light on rising underground stars Georgia Anne Muldrow, M.E.D., Aloe Blacc, James Pants and Guilty Simpson.
