Film 101: Thwarted Plots
words: Author B. Unknown

The topic at hand is a vivid look at 90’s and a post 2000 film mentality from the thirty year old guru and aspiring filmmaker. To begin, one doesn’t have to be a seasoned film critic to realize that modern film has no boundaries; yet it does have a few unwritten rules.

After one views recurrent themes, you begin to sense a connection to the methods of madness. You see that a portrayal of death is used as a mock transformation and that a couple of junkies have bigger fixations. Certain stories captured on film are able to send subliminal messages like shockwaves. To mention specifics would deter your ability to dig deeper. The late 90’s have produced a great deal of creative work as well as an independent spirit to do it yourself. Back to the unwritten rules.

Rule number one; where’s Ashley?

Rule number two; who stole my notebook?

Rule number three; where did the pimp come from? He wasn’t there when I needed help the most.

I know this may sound stupid, but how many times have you asked yourself, where do these people (filmmakers) come from? I mean, to start with a spiritual thing and to end with a sex scene? Maybe there’s a mythical land? I mean these stories, where do they come from? In theory, how does one write about a subject with no prior knowledge of it? Maybe the college kids are right; the books are where it’s at. You can slowly catch on to the fact that these whacked out story tellers are human after all, just with a little added steam.

To aspire, you see nothing but glamour and glitz. Then your first peek of the inside comes and you need to be consoled; you never thought that being behind the camera took guts at all. Look in the mirror, keep digging and treat yourself like royalty.

Peace.
