Location: Busboys and Poets @ 5th & K, Washington, DC (http://www.busboysandpoets.com)

Call for Entries: “Hard Times Require Furious Dancing” is an art exhibition celebrating the release of famed poet Alice Walker’s new book of the same title. The exhibit will be hosted by Busboys and Poets (5&K) and open on September 28, 2010, followed by the book release on October 2, which will feature a reading by Alice Walker and dance party. Selected artists should be available the week of Sept. 20 to transport and install their work at the location (specific installation times will be designated in the contract) and all artwork must be framed and presentable. Artists will be selected based on their artistic integrity, originality and ability to create artwork inspired by Alice Walker’s title, “Hard Times Require Furious Dancing,” and/or her new poems (available at http://www.alicewalkersgarden.com/HardTimes.html). All artwork will be for sale, price of artwork determined by artist, with 80% of profit going directly to the artist and 20% to the curators for exhibit management and processing payments. The exhibit is scheduled to run through January 9, 2011.

All applicants must provide one .zip file (compress all files into one folder) with the following:

- jpeg images of each piece they would like to put in the show (min: 1 / max: 5)
- A detailed checklist (title, dimensions, medium, sale price) of artwork as a separate attachment
- A short bio (max: 300 words) about themselves as an artist in the body of the e-mail
- References preferred, but not mandatory
- Resume is optional

**Please send all application materials in ONE e-mail to SJ2.arts@gmail.com. Subject line should read: “BBP Submission.” All applicants will be notified in writing of the status of their application by the first week of September.
