UCLA Community Scholars Program
The 2010 Community Scholars Program at UCLA is inviting applications from artists, culture workers, and popular educators who are interested in participating in a two-quarter studio project entitled Popular Education 2.0: Explaining Green Jobs to the People. Selected participants will collaborate with urban planning graduate students in a weekly workshop to produce useful and innovative popular education tools to advance green jobs, as well as a broader spectrum of environmental and social change goals. The program is free to selected applicants and Community Scholars receive free access to university resources including urban planning courses, library, privileges, and urban planning faculty.
Application Deadline, November 13, 2009 For a program brochure and application please go to the Community Scholars website. The 20 week program runs January 6 through June 9. Sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 3:30 – 6:30 PM. Most sessions will be held at the UCLA Downtown Labor Center, which is located across the street from MacArthur Park. There are no academic prerequisites for participation in the program. For more information or questions please contact Gilda Haas at ghaas@ucla.edu or 323-528-2076. Please Spread the Word The Community Scholars Program was created in 1991 in recognition of the important role that community and labor leaders play in shaping community development policy in L.A. The 2010 Program takes a new spin on the same idea, recognizing the important role that artists, popular educators, and culture workers play as catalysts for change. Because this is a new constituency for the program, we would really appreciate it if you would forward this email to people who you think would be a great fit. |
