I'm curious; Cedric Robinson, in "Black Marxism" sort of attributes the concept of Hierarchy to the Euro-centric paradigm, or so it seems to me.
But what about Egypt? (black egypt -- yea i realize its redundant: "black land of the blacks") Anyway, didnt egypt have a rigid hierarchy also? Pharaohs, scribes, priests, soldiers, civil servants, governors, etc? Are there any texts out there that investigate this? Also interesting to me is the fact that most commonly accepted histories of "democracy" start in Greece with Athens. Did egypt, ethiopia, nubia, kush, or any other of the pre-greco societies, not have democratic forms of government? Further, is democracy really an antonym to hierarchy? Doesn't it too have a structure with subordinates and superiors? Or is Robinson's critique mainly dealing SOCIAL HIERARCHY?... Things such as racism, sexism... that subordinate someone based on natural characteristics? Or is it only DIRECT democracy that is a true antonym to Hierarchy? ----- Robinson's text i refer to: Black Marxism by Cedric Robinson
