What is the Nonviolent Peaceforce?
The Nonviolent Peaceforce is an international organization dedicated to creating a large-scale peace army of trained, paid civilians from every continent to intervene in conflict situations. Using proven nonviolent intervention techniques, Peaceforce teams help local peacemakers carry out and expand their work to transform violent conflicts. The Peaceforce is currently conducting a three-year pilot project in Sri Lanka and working with local groups in Burma, Israel/Palestine, and the Korean Peninsula

Dear Press Friends,

The Nonviolent Peaceforce is having an Open House on April 28 from 4:30-7:00 at 425 Oak Grove.(behind St. Marks Episcopal Cathedral.) We are hoping that you will join us. Further we hope that you would put the announcement in your paper calendar section and do a story on the Nonviolent Peaceforce. Mel Duncan our Executive Director will be speaking at 5PM and 6PM. We will have refreshments and a video of our pilot project in Sri Lanka. If you have questions or wish to interview someone about the Nonvioeltn Peaceforce, please call Mel or Amanda at 612 871-0005.

Formed at the 1999 Hague Appeal for Peace, Nonviolent Peaceforce reflects a growing global movement to create a new, research-based and cost-effective international tool to transform violent conflicts. The network includes over 90 organizations around the world. Our pilot project is in its second year.
We have a multinational team using accompaniment, protective presence and monitoring as a means of peacekeeping in Sri Lanka.
