Call for Artists for UCLA Public Health Week
Call for Artists for UCLA Public Health Week
----- Hello All, The Students of Color for Public Health (SCPH) is organizing its 4th Annual Public Health Week, which take place from April 4-8 2011 (Spring Quarter). As part of the week-long events, we are seeking artists (visual or performative) -including stand-up comedy, spoken word/poetry e.t.c to present their work on Thursday April 7 2011 from 7-10 PM. This year’s theme “Safety is No Accident: Live Injury-Free” brings forth many different topics that have not been explored in years past such as gang violence prevention and intimate partner violence. Also, this year we are discussing complementary and alternative practices (i.e. meditation, art), as innovative approaches that reduce injury and contribute to health and wellness. So far we have engaging and informative speakers/workshops, film screening and trivia activities including sessions on - "Gang violence” “The role of Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine in Public Health”, and “The Healing Power of the Arts” amongst others. This program is also Co-Programmed/ Co-Sponsored by both undergraduate and graduate student groups on UCLA campus such as the Public Health Student Association (PHSA), Nutrition Complementary Alternative Medicine (NCAM), Nigerian Student Association (NSA) and Black Pre-Health Organization (BPHO). If interested (or if you know anyone who is interested), please email me at lepa86@gmail.com and please include your contact info as well as photos, videos, websites, etc. that give examples of your work. Thank you. -- Deborah Chat Dauda Masters Student- Public Health and African Studies African Activists Association (AAA) Co-Chair UCLA International Institute Inter-Departmental Program (IDP's) Assistant Counselor UCLA SCPH Director of Public Health Week |
